Richard J Burton

Richard J Burton M.D. MPH (January 24, 1957 - Present) is the Health Officer and Director of Health and Human Services for Placer County, California, United States of America. A successful graduate of University of California Davis, Baylor College of Medicine, and UC Berkeley School of Public Health with a Master of Public Health. Burton's extensive background includes over 15 years of clinical practice, 10 years as Naval Commander, serving as a flight surgeon with the United States Marine Corps, international immunization research, 10 years as a local public health officer, and 3 years as Associate Director of the California Department of Health Services.

Burton is an active member of the California Conference of Local Health Officers (CCLHO), Commissioner of First 5 Placer: Children and Families Commission, as well as a quoted resource in many media outlets; including the Auburn Journal, The Sacramento Bee, the Union Newspaper, Good Day Sacramento, and many others.

Born in San Mateo, California, United States of America on January 24, 1957, Burton resided in San Mateo until furthering his education in Davis, California and continuing on to Houston, Texas to pursue medical school. After returning to California for residency, Burton pursued a Master of Public Health. Burton married Ruth M Roloff on June 9, 1984. Through his service as a flight surgeon, Burton and his wife, Ruth M Burton, resided in Pensacola, Florida, Okinawa, Japan and San Bruno, California. Burton and his wife had their first child, Rachel E Burton, on June 28, 1987 and twin daughters Sarah N Burton and Hannah C Burton on November 28, 1988. After residing in San Bruno, California, Burton and his family moved to Oakland, California
