Kurt Wiese(
April 22 ,1887 -May 27 ,1974 ) was a German-born book illustrator of almost three hundred books by other authors.World War One
Wiese traveled in
China selling merchandise as a young man. On the outbreak of WWI, he was captured by the Japanese, and turned over to the British. He spent five years as a prisoner, most of them inAustralia , where his fascination for the animal life inspired him to start sketching. In 1927 Wiese moved to the
United States . In 1930 he married Gertrude Hansen. Wiese wrote and illustrated 20 children’s books and illustrated another 300 for other authors.
