BoardSource, formerly called National Center for Nonprofit Boards, is a
nonprofit organization that was founded in 1988. Its mission is to increase the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations by strengthening theirboards of directors .History
In the early 1980s, Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges and Independent Sector conducted a survey and found that although 30 percent of respondents believed they were doing a good job of board education and training, the rest of the respondents reported little, if any, activity in strengthening
governance . W. K. It changed its name to BoardSource in 2002.Current Status
It now serves more than 75,000 nonprofit leaders yearly through its web site, a bimonthly magazine, workshops, consulting, an annual conference, and a series of books.
