planthopper present on several Pacific Islands. Its common name is island sugarcane planthopper. It is a vector for Ramu stunt disease, a plant disease which affects sugarcane. Ramu stunt disease is widespread throughout Papua New Guinea, but is not present in Australia."Eumetopina" is thought to have evolved in Papua New Guinea, where up to four undescribed species have been collected. However, in PNG, "E. flavipes" occurs on "Saccharum officinarum", "S. robustum", "S. edule" and "S". hybrid sugarcanes. "E. flavipes" is present on many islands in the Torres Strait, and a small population persists on the very tip of mainland Australia.
