Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (Ruhuna)

Coordinates: 6°4′40″N 80°12′26″E / 6.07778°N 80.20722°E / 6.07778; 80.20722 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (Ruhuna) is one of the four departments of Faculty Of Engineering Ruhuna. The department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is the only department in Sri Lanka that offers Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (Production Engineering), Automobile Technology, Computer aided Designing & Engineering, Control & Robotics Engineering, & more technological stuffs under one specialization stream.

Research

Previously department research activities are in the undergraduate level. Most of the projects from the department directly accompanied with real world problems. Fewer of projects won national prizes.
Now post-graduate programs offered from the department.
vertical axis wind turbine development project is now going on.

Facilities

The department has 5 main laboratories namely Materials & Metallurgy Laboratory, Thermodynamics & Energy Laboratory, and Fluid Mechanics & Process Engineering Laboratory, Applied Mechanics & Automobile Engineering Laboratory, Control, Automation & CAD/CAM Laboratory. Especially the department has a well equipped Engineering Workshop for improve skills of using real industrial instrument of graduates. Also the department has a separate Computer Laboratory for implementation of CAD/CAM activities.

Staff

Dr. S. Baduge serves as the head of the department. Currently, 5 senior lecturer and 7 lecturers are working to the department. Most of the academic staff members are on study leave doing their post graduate degrees.
