Kanischev's first seven years in football were in the local championship of
Leningrad , then he played in the reserves ofZenit Leningrad in the second Soviet league. In 1982Jānis Skredelis invited him toDaugava Rīga with which Kanischev made his name as a very technical midfield in the first Soviet league. WithGenādijs Šitiks andJurijs Popkovs he formed one of the strongest midfield lines in the 1st Soviet league and in 1985 with Daugava won the first league title. In 1986 and 1987 Kanischev played withZenit Leningrad but he had missed the clubs best years (in 1984 when Zenit won its single Soviet league title Kanischev was still in Daugava).In 1988 he returned to Daugava which by then was also on the fall. Kanishev retired from football in 1990 after having played his last season with
Metalist Kharkiv .
