Known as the "Pride of East Boston", Bartolo won the National Boxing Association World featherweight title in 1944 with a points win over
Phil Terranova . Later that year he fought a rematch with Terranova. In the rematch the Referee voted for Terranova but both judges gave it to Bartolo. "Bartolo piled up a long early lead, coasted in the middle stages and flashed back strongly in the closing rounds." New York Times.He lost the belt to

Bartola later owned and managed the
