- Fíngen mac Áedo Duib
Fíngen mac Áedo Duib (d. 618) [all dates per "The Chronology of the Irish Annals", Daniel P. McCarthy] was a
King of Munster from theEóganacht Chaisil branch of theEoganachta . He was the great-grandson ofFeidlimid mac Óengusa , a previous king. [Francis J.Byrne, "Irish Kings and High-Kings" , Table 12] He succeededAmalgaid mac Éndai as king in 601.There is some dispute in the sources as to his reign and that of
Áed Bennán mac Crimthainn (died 618) of the Loch Lein branch. The "Annals of Tigernach" give the title King of Munster to both of them but give Fingin's accession after Amalgaid in 601. ["Annals of Tigernach" AT 601.5;618.3, 618.4] The "Annals of Innisfallen" do not give Aed this title but give it to Fingin. ["Annals of Innisfallen" AI 619.1,620.2]His reign was a prosperous one: [Byrne, pg.206]
Munster in the time of Fíngen mac Áedo, its store-houses were full, its homesteads were fruitful.
According to the saga "Mór of Munster and the Violent Death of Cuanu mac Ailchine" he was originally married to a Deisi woman but later married
Mór Muman (d. 636), the daughter of Áed Bennán. She later married his successorCathal mac Áedo (d. 627) thereby transferring the kingship to him. [Byrne, pg.204-205]His sons by Mór were Sechnussach and
Máenach mac Fíngin (d. 661) who was a King of Munster. [Rev. Eugene O'Keeffe, "Book of Munster", [http://www.clanmacrae.org/documents/munster.htm Eoghanacht Genealogies] ]s-ttl|title=King of Munster |years=c. 601 – 618
