Agassiz Glacier is located in the U.S. state of Montana in Glacier National Park (U.S.). It is named after Louis Agassiz, a Swiss-American glaciologist. The glacier is situated in a cirque to the southeast of Kintla Peak west of the Continental Divide. The glacier is being monitored using remote sensing equipment and repeat photography, where images of the glacier are taken from identical locations periodically. Tree ring samples have also been used previously to determine the extent of glacier retreat.
