Henry de Loundres

Henry de Loundres [Henri de Diveline, Henry of London, Henry le Blund, Henry le Blount.] (died 1228) was an Anglo-Norman churchman who was Archbishop of Dublin, from 1213 to 1228 [ [http://homepage.eircom.net/~frduffy/re/school/primary.html Dublin Diocesan Jubilee Website: Primary School Resouces ] ] . He was an influential figure in the reign of John of England, an administrator and loyalist to the king, and is mentioned in the text of the "Magna Carta", the terms of which he helped to negotiate [J. C. Holt, "Magna Carta" (second edition 1992), pp. 366-7, 449.] .

He was dean of Stafford in 1207 [ [http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=37873 Colleges - Stafford, St Mary | British History Online ] ] , and commissioned a church in Penkridge [ [http://www.penkridge.org.uk/religion.htm Religion in Penkridge ] ] . He was justiciar in Ireland [One period 1210 to 1215 [http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=37872] ; in 1213 according to A. L. Poole, "Domesday Book to Magna Carta" p. 315.] ; and attempted unsuccessfully to have one of his clerks appointed Bishop of Cork in 1214 [ [http://www.ucc.ie/chronicon/warrfra.htm Warren - Church and state in Angevin Ireland ] ] . He was resisted by Donnchad Ua Longargain, Archbishop of Cashel, in his attempts to make the church hierarchy in Ireland more Anglo-Norman [Maurice Powicke, "The Thirteenth Century" (1962 edition), p. 568 note.] .

He organized his archdiocese and made his cathedral see at the enlarged St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin [ [http://www.enfo.ie/leaflets/bs16.htm] , [http://www.talkingcities.co.uk/quick_guides/dublin_attractions.shtml] ] . He was a major figure in the completion by 1230 of Dublin Castle [ [http://www.dublincastle.ie/history3.html Dublin Castle - History Chapter 3 ] ] , and had a hostel for pilgrims built in Dublin [ [http://www.ucd.ie/gsi/pdf/33-2/bay.pdf PDF] , p. 125.] .
