Jay Sadguru Swami

Jay Sadguru Swami is the aarti sung in all Swaminarayan Mandirs. Aarti is conducted by the singing of a special prayer to God and also playing of musical instruments. The piece was composed by Muktanand Swami. [cite web | url=http://www.swaminarayansatsang.com/library/kirtan/kirtandetails.asp?kirtanid=165 | title= Aarti by Muktanand Swami] During the Arti ceremony a lighted ghee lamp with five wicks in it is rotated (circular, in the shape of the Roman Numeral 8) before a representation of Swaminarayan and other deities known as the Murti (Idol or Image). [cite web | url=http://www.swaminarayan.nu/youth/aarti.shtml | title=Interpretation of Aarti, Dhun, Stuti, Prarthna] Swaminarayan is considered to be physically manifest in the Murti, and several arti ceremonies are performed through the day in order that devotees can show their love and devotion. As the Murti is not permanently on view for devotees, the Arti is an important opportunity to gain blessings through darshan (reverential contemplation) of a physical manifestation of Swaminarayan. In Shikharband Mandirs aarti is performed five times a day. In Dev Mandirs (also Hari Mandir), aarti is performed in the morning and evening only.
