Polystation

Polystation

Polystation is the name given to many PlayStation-like Nintendo Entertainment System hardware clones. Most, if not all, of these clones originate from China, and are generally of poor quality. The cartridge slot of these systems is located under the lid which, on a PlayStation, covers the disc drive.

Variations of the Polystation

The Polystation and similar consoles are sold under many different names, including "PS-Kid", "Game Player" and "Play and Power"; there are also a number of variations on the Polystation name such as "Polystation II", "Polystation III" and "Super Polystation". Some of these consoles resemble the original PlayStation, others the PSOne redesign, and others the PlayStation 2. Recent variations of the Polystation resemble the PlayStation 3, some of which sold under the name "Funstation 3". Some variations include built-in pirated games, and in many cases these games are hacked; for example, in one version of Super Mario Bros., Mario is replaced by Pikachu.

False descriptions on item package

Polystation packaging often features false claims about the capabilities of the console's hardware; for example, claiming the console outputs stereo sound, when in reality the NES is mono only and clone systems usually feature only a single audio jack. Many feature screenshots of games running on hardware more advanced than the NES, typically Mega Drive, SNES or PlayStation. The number of games built-in is also usually greatly exaggerated, claiming numbers in the hundreds or thousands, where in reality the same games are listed multiple times with slight variations (eg. palette swaps, different sprites, different starting levels)
