Charles "Charlie" Smith is the former Chairman of the College Republican National Committee. He was born in Iowa, where he attended Dowling Catholic High School. Charlie studied Real Estate and Finance at the University of Denver. While there, he became leader of the university's chapter of the College Republicans. He was eventually elected to two terms as Colorado's State College Republican Chair and was awarded "Best State Chairman" in 2005.[1]

He was elected College Republican National Chairman in 2007 on a platform of reform and promised a new internet strategy.[2] Smith, and the rest of the candidates on his slate, were all unopposed in those leadership election races. Since his election, Smith has revamped the CRNC website, created a new blog called the The CR Voice, and instituted a new online social mobilization tool called "STORM." Following the completion of his term as Chairman the social networking tool STORM was dismantled by the current CRNC leadership after it received harsh criticism from the large majority of State Federations.[3]
