Shiftspace

ShiftSpace is an open-source metaweb or web annotation application created by Dan Phiffer and Mushon Zer-Aviv that allows to alter (called "shifting") web pages with different tools (called "spaces"). Current tools allow the creation of sticky-notes, text highlighting or the alteration of the web page's source code. The tagline of the application is "an open source layer above any web page". It is implemented as a userscript for the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox. Its current version is 0.10 released on October 12, 2007.

ShiftSpace has been covered by TechCrunch in April 2007 as one of "5 ways to mark up the web" [ [http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/04/10/5-ways-to-mark-up-the-web/ Five Ways to Mark Up the Web ] ] .

Until February, [http://turbulence.org/ Turbulence] , a net art commissioning group from New York City, is running a commission program that will reward people to build new tools ("spaces") for the open ShiftSpace platform [ [http://transition.turbulence.org/Works/shiftspace/ ShiftSpace Commission Program ] ] .
