Warner Bros. "Looney Tunes "cartoon released on January 25, 1947. It stars The Goofy Gophers (who are, for some reason, gray instead of brown as they would be in their subsequent appearances), and also features a cameo byBugs Bunny (whose voice in this film is sped up). [This is Bugs' fourth cameo and his third cameo in aWarner Bros. Picture.] The WB animators, by this time, were now widely usingRobert McKimson 's version of Bugs's design. This is one of the latest-released pre-1948 WB cartoons to enter the public domain, as
United Artists (successor-in-interest toAssociated Artists Productions ) failed to renew the copyright in time. It was also the firstLooney Tunes cartoon to be reissued as a Blue Ribbon.Plot
The cartoon opens up with a dog guarding a vegetable garden and falling asleep. The dog spots two gophers eating carrots. The dog disguises himself as a tomato vine and poses as an actual plant in the garden. The Gophers spot the tomato vine, with one of them imitating Bugs Bunny. After grabbing a bunch of vegetables, the Gophers throw a pumpkin on the dog and hit him with a shovel. The gags are plenty as the Gophers continue to outwit their canine nemesis. Eventually, they launch the dog, via rocket, into space towards the moon. The Gophers, now triumphant, gloat that they will have all the carrots to themselves. But suddenly a familiar "Eh..." is heard; the camera pans to the side, revealing Bugs Bunny: "Well, I wouldn't say "that"!" Bugs laughs as the cartoon irises-out.
