Robert Deakin

Thomas Carlyle Joseph Robert Hamish Deakin, also known by all as Robert Deakin, was the Anglican Bishop of Tewkesbury from 1973 until his death in 1985. The son of a clergyman [Who's Who 1970 London, A & C Black, 1971 ISBN 0713611405] , Deakin was educated at Oxford and "Wells Theological College" before embarking on a curacy at Stroud, Gloucestershire [During which time he married Marion Dyer Who’s Who (Ibid)] and the incumbency at Holy Trinity in the Forest of Dean. Rural Dean of Cheltenham from 1949 [Crockfords, (London, Church House 1995) ISBN 0715180886 ] until his elevation to the suffragan bishopric of Tewkesbury [ The Times, Friday, Nov 02, 1973; pg. 19; Issue 58929; col B Inauguration of three new bishops] in 1973, he died on 3 August 1985 [The Times, Monday, Aug 05, 1985; pg. 14; Issue 62208; col H Right Rev Robert Deakin Category: Obituaries] .
