The "Brutus" was a 10-gun brig of the French Navy.
In 1794, she ferried a new ambassador to the USA to replace Edmond-Charles Genêt, and to bring despatches to Van Stabel.
She was captured by HMS "Mermaid" off Grenada on 10 October 1795.
