- Paul Matosic
Paul Matosic is an installation artist working from Nottingham, England. His work explores themes of
architecture , and mankind’s problematic relationship with the environment.Matosic’s work is often created out of discarded industrial and technological pieces. With these pieces he creates provocative cityscapes that are specially tailored to the space in which they are displayed. [ [http://www.matosic.org.uk/ paul matosic ] ] These works force questions about human beings’ relationship with the environment. These cities are created out of useless waste, yet as cities they represent human lifestyle, human achievement, and the working of our species on a massive scale. These works also explore the ‘shattered earth’ theme that was first established in 1984.
Some of Matosic’s more recent cityscapes have been created atop sand-hills, reflecting the old biblical teaching that it is foolish to build one’s house on sand. These cityscapes provoke questions about humankind’s unstable social foundations, and force their audience to ask what exactly their society is built upon.
Matosic has exhibited extensively throughout England, exhibiting in both solo exhibitions, and in collaboration with other artists. He has been the recipient of several awards, and been provided with the opportunity to create many different works of public art.
