- Vera Griner
Vera Griner (nee Alvang), the outstanding Russian rhythmician, was born in April the 5th 1890, in Saint-Petersburg, dead in June the 24th in Moscow. Her father, Alexander Alvang, was a well-known barrister. Since 1908 the Alvang family had been living in Munich. And it was Munich, where Vera Alvang met Rhythmics. In 1911 she came to Dresden where Dalcroze gave lessons, and when
Hellerau Institute had been set, she came there. In 1912 Vera Alvang together with several pupils of Dalcroze came to Petersburg to turn a teacher at the Courses set by PrinceSerge Wolkonsky . About a year she was a teacher and a student of Hellerau, and in May 1913 she graduated Institute and returned in Petersburg to go on teaching. So, she began to work in 1912, at her age of 22, and to stop in 1970.Besides the Courses, she gave a lot of lessons to many audience in Petersburg. In her archives there is a list of places of her work, it includes more than 30 organizations. In 1914 the Second World War broke out, and the Courses were closed. The foreign teachers leaved Russia, and Vera Alvang came to Moscow. That time she was married Mr.Emmanuel Griner. In Moscow she began her work at School of Alexandrova, and after the school she came to Rhythmic Institute. It was established in July,1919. Nina Alexandrova was its director, m-me Griner, together with many people familiar to her from the previous period, such as Prince Wolkonsky, got the teacher. After the Institute was closed, m-me Vera worked at a lot of organizations. Schukin Theatrical School turned out her basic place, she came there in 1939.
In 1991 Fédération Internationale des Enseignants de Rythmique (F.I.E.R.) gave her the Honoured Member of this Federation.
