Patrick Keary Jerel Colbert (born May 21, 1982 in city-state|Oxnard|California) is an American football wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks in the National Football League. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He played college football at Southern California. Colbert has also played for the Denver Broncos.

Early years

Colbert attended Hueneme High School in Oxnard, California, and was a letterman in football and track.

College career

He attended University of Southern California, where he was a star wide receiver. In his final year at USC, Colbert made an unbelievable catch while he was interfered by two defenders in the Rose Bowl against University of Michigan, broke away and walked into the end zone for a touchdown. Colbert's 149 yards in the Rose Bowl were a career high. Colbert left USC as the school's all-time leader in pass receptions, passing Kareem Kelly with 207.

He has caught at least one pass in his final 36 games. He earned All-Pac 10 second-team honors his senior year and finished second on the team with 69 receptions for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns.

Professional career

Carolina Panthers

Colbert was the Carolina Panthers' second round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. With the Panthers, he stepped into the 2nd receiver spot when Steve Smith was injured. He filled in nicely, catching 47 catches for 754 yards and 5 touchdowns. With high expectations for Colbert in the 2005 season, he struggled catching 25 passes for 282 yards and just 2 touchdowns.

In 2006, however, Colbert was inactive most of the second half of the season. In 2007, Colbert had a mediocre season, and was placed on Injured Reserve at the end of the season.

Denver Broncos

On March 1, 2008 he signed with the Denver Broncos to a three-year, $7.2 million contract, including a $2.5 million signing bonus.

eattle Seahawks

On September 16, 2008, Colbert was acquired from the Denver Broncos by the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Personal

Colbert has a tattoo of his initials "KC" similar to that of the logo of the Kansas City Chiefs. Ironically, it was in Kansas City against the Chiefs where he scored his first NFL touchdown in 2004, where soon after he pointed to the tattoo on his arm and then to the KC logo in the end zone.

During the 2007 season Colbert wrote a column on college football called the "Colbert Campus Report" for the panthers.com website. Each week he ranked the top 5 teams and picks upsets. The title is reminiscent of the Colbert Report, a popular television program featuring the eponymous anchor.
