"Passengers" is a science fiction short story by Robert Silverberg. It was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Short Story 1970, and won the Nebula Award for Best Short Story in 1969.

Plot summary

All Earth is subject to the will of the "Riders"—-intangible beings who randomly usurp human bodies for a some amount of time, and do nothing but play and cause havoc. When the passenger leaves the host body, the person is left with no memories of his time being ridden.

This story is about one man who wakes up after a three day ride, and, quite unusually, remembers the person his rider slept with while in his body. He fights against the pervasive pessimism of the world and tried to connect with this woman.
