Angolan legislative election, 1986

The Angolan legislative election of 1986 was held in Angola on December 9, 1986. The government previously held a parliamentary election in November 1980. The government postponed elections initially set for 1983 to 1986 in light of UNITA's military gains in the 1980s.cite web|author=|year=1986|url=http://www.ipu.org/parline-e/reports/arc/ANGOLA_1986_E_1.PDF|title=Angola|format=HTML|publisher=Inter-Parliamentary Union|accessdate=2008-01-10]

Angolan law prohibits Angolans active in "factionalist, puppet groups" and criminals from voting in elections, but all other citizens of 18 years of age or over are allowed to vote and run for any of the 289 permanent offices and 29 substitute offices in the People's Assembly.

Most of the candidates worked as farmers, soldiers, or laborers.
