Speech and Debate (play)

Speech and Debate (play)

Speech and Debate is a play written by Stephen Karam, which recently played Off-Broadway at Roundabout Underground. It starred Gideon Glick, Sarah Steele, Jason Fuchs and Susan Blackwell.

Plot

Even though they go to the same school, misfits Solomon (a reporter for the school paper trying to submit more controversial stories), Diwata (a drama-queen blogger who hates her drama teacher for never giving her a part in the school musical) and Howie (an outspoken openly gay teen) have never met. But when a shocking scandal involving one of their teachers brings them together through an unexpected chain of events, they realize three voices are stronger than one. And since their school has no speech and debate squad, maybe this is their chance to be heard at last – by the school and even the world.
