April 27 ,1962 inCovina, California ) is a retiredlong-distance runner from theUnited States , who represented her native country twice at theSummer Olympics , starting in 1988 (Seoul, South Korea ).Plumer has remained a force in American running ever since her
Stanford University days. In1985 , a taxi inYokohama hit her, breaking her leg. That cost her nine months of training. A foot injury scratched her1987 season. A severe bout withpneumonia that December nearly killed her; it was her sixth encounter with the illness. She nevertheless made the Olympic team the next summer, but food poisoning slowed her in the Seoul Games. In1991 , she finished 12th in the World Championships 1,500 metres, after getting bitten by a dog prior to the race.Reference
