Alan Browning (23 March 1926 - 7 September 1979) was an English film and television actor, born in Sunderland. He is best remembered as the character Alan Howard in the television series "Coronation Street", a role which he played from 1969 until 1974. He was married to the actress Pat Phoenix from December 23, 1972 until his death from liver failure in 1979. Pat Phoenix also played his on screen wife Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street.

Browning's other television appearances included "The Plane Makers" (1964), "The Newcomers" (1965), "The War of Darkie Pilbeam" (1968) and "Big Breadwinner Hog" (1969). His film credits included "Guns at Batasi" (1964) and "Julius Caesar" (1970).
