Lou Stein (b. Apr. 22, 1922,
Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania ) is an Americanjazz pianist.Stein's first major gig came in 1942 when he joined
Ray McKinley 's band. He also played withGlenn Miller when the latter was stateside duringWorld War II . After the war he worked withCharlie Ventura (1946-47) and following this became asession musician . He performed with theLawson-Haggart Band ,Benny Goodman ,Sarah Vaughan , theSauter-Finegan Orchestra ,Louie Bellson ,Red Allen ,Coleman Hawkins , andLester Young , and recorded a few records as abandleader . In 1957 he scored a U.S.Top 40 hit with "Almost Paradise", which peaked at #31 on theBillboard Hot 100 . He played withJoe Venuti from 1969 to 1972 and later withFred Phillips ; he continued recording into the 1990s.Discography
