1st Chess Olympiad

The 1st Chess Olympiad, organized by the FIDE and comprising an open [ Although commonly referred to as the "men's division", this section is open to both male and female players. ] and women's tournament, as well as several events designed to promote the game of chess, took place between July 18 and July 30, 1927, in London, United Kingdom.

* Gold medal won George Alan Thomas (England), scoring 12/15 (80.0%) and
* Gold medal won Holger Norman-Hansen (Denmark), scoring 12/15 (80.0%);
* Bronze medal won Richard Réti (Czechoslovakia), scoring 11.5/15 (76.7%);
* 4th place - Géza Maróczy (Hungary), scoring 9/12 (75.0%);
* 5th place - Ernst Grünfeld (Austria), scoring 9.5/13 (73.1%);
* 6th place - Max Euwe (Netherlands), scoring 10.5/15 (70.0%).

Women's World Chess Championship
