Moody Street Pictures was founded by John MacNeil, a long-time cameraman, founder of Boston Film Factory and co-owner of Boston Camera. At first called "Exile Films," the company changed its name to Moody Street Pictures in 2003. In the Summer of 2003, Mark Donadio (a well known Boston film producer), John Stimpson, Miriam Marcus, Adam Moyer (now producer of American Chopper), Gary Henoch and music manager/book publicist Ralph Jaccodine joined John to build a collaborative of producers, cameramen, directors and editors.

In 2006 Timothy Egan joined as an Executive Producer. Steve Sera formally the head of production at NESN, joined in December 2007. In February 2008 Boston Camera Rental co. merged with Rule Broadcast to create the largest motion picture and television equipment rental company in the northeast.

As a founding member of the Massachusetts Production Council, Moody Street Pictures was instrumental in the passage of recent Massachusetts transferrable tax-credits worth up to 25% of total media production spend on television and film production work performed in Massachusetts.
