Powerline Ekibastuz-Kokshetau

The Ekibastuz-Kokshetau power line holds the record for operating at the highest transmission voltage in the world (1,150 kV).

Construction started, and the line entered service in the Soviet era. Designated power line number 1101, it runs 268 miles (432 km) from Ekibastusz to Kokshetau in Kazakhstan. It is mounted on electrical pylons with an average height of 196 feet (60 metres). The weight of the conductors is approximately 50 tons.

While the extended power line to Elektrostal, near Moscow in Russia was also designed to handle 1150 kV, it currently only operates at 400 kV.
