The William Penn Society

The William Penn Society is one of the 10 active societies on the Whittier College campus. A recognized member of the Inter-Society Council (ISC), The William Penn Society boasts the largest membership of the 4 Fraternal Societies. The society itself is an organization made up of individuals with many different talents, backgrounds, and personalities. The Penns encourage diversity and believe in strength through individuality. The society provides opportunities for service and for social and personal growth.

The Society was started in 1934 by Frank Alexander and has enjoyed close to 75 exceptional years as one of the most recognizable groups of leaders on campus. Through its history the society was known for providing the campus with a directory and hosting multiple social events throughout the year. Recently the Society has gained recognition by providing discounted trips to Medieval Times and Pirate Adventure for the campus.

Interesting Facts about the Society

The William Penn Society is the third oldest active all-male society on campus.

The Thalian Society is the sister society of the William Penns.

Little sisters of the society are known as "Pennettes".

7 alumni of the society are current members of the Whittier College board of trustees.

Staying true to their commitment to diversity, the Penns have had members from 27 different countries.
