Its seat is the village of Czarnocin, which lies approximately convert|9|km|mi|0 north of Kazimierza Wielka and convert|61|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of the regional capital Kielce.

The gmina covers an area of convert|69.53|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,176.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Kozubów Landscape Park.
