Its seat is the town of Łazy, which lies approximately convert|8|km|mi|0 south of Zawiercie and convert|35|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-east of the regional capital Katowice.

The gmina covers an area of convert|132.56|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 15,990 (out of which the population of Łazy amounts to 7,139, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 8,851).
