Xenarchus ( _el. Ξέναρχος) of Seleucia in Cilicia, a
Peripatetic philosopher andgrammarian , who lived in the late1st century BC . Xenarchus left home early, and devoted himself to the profession of teaching, first atAlexandria , afterwards atAthens , and last atRome , where he enjoyed the friendship of Arius, and afterwards ofAugustus ; and he was still living, in old age and honour, when Strabo wrote.
