The Chitte Building

The Chitte Building is an apartment building in New York City, New York. Located at 349 Amsterdam Avenue between 76th and 77th street, this five floor walk-up features twelve apartments and hosts rental space once occupied by the sports bar Time Out. This space is currently up for reconstruction and will be rented out again in 2009. The entire building was built in 1873-1874 by Brescoll & Palestine Construction Co [1000 New York Buildings, 2nd by Bill Harris and Judith Dupre] . In the early 1950's George and Ira Gershwin lived on the second floor, where they wrote a number of their most popular radio hits.
