The station was assigned the call letters KAYT on
1955-10-24 , later they changed to KBBK on1985-01-01 . On2000-02-24 , the station changed its call sign to the current KFTA. "El Chupacabras." Reed, who is Anglo by birth but fluent in Spanish, created the name, original logo and format. He was also featured in Pulitzer Prize winning author Hector Tobar's book, "Translation Nation." [3] The station has received international attention from the BBC and "Los Angeles Times" due to its innovative full-service format featuring a mix of news, sports, talk shows and music. Other air personalities include Rosie "La Bomba" Juarez and Francisco "El Espiderman."
