List of airports in the Greater Toronto Area

The following active airports serve the Greater Toronto Area:

* Hamilton/John C. Munro International Airport (CYHM)

Pearson, City Centre and Hamilton have scheduled passenger service, however the vast majority of passenger traffic goes through Toronto's Pearson International Airport, which is Canada's busiest airport and the country's major hub. Hamilton handles some discount flights and charters and acts as an alternate to Pearson. City Centre handles a large amount of air ambulance traffic and recently, the newly launched passenger airline Porter Airlines. Buttonville formerly had scheduled passenger service from Ottawa operated by Bearskin Airlines, but it has been discontinued. Hamilton is popular with charters and discount airlines who want to avoid fees at Pearson, which is among the world's most expensive airports.

Proposed Airports

There is a tentative proposal to develop a new, Pickering Airport northeast of the city, to complement Pearson on the west side of Toronto. The development of this airport would likely result in the closure of the Oshawa, Markham, and Buttonville airports, all of which are located near the proposed site.

Historical Airports

The following airports once served the area but have since been closed:

* Armour Heights Field - opened 1917 by Royal Flying Corps and closed in 1919.
* Barker Field - opened 1927 and closed in 1953; south of current Downsview Airport, now site of a dealership
* Downsview Airfield - opened 1929, home of De Havilland at site of current Downsview site.
* Leaside Aerodrome - opened 1917 by Royal Flying Corps" (later as Royal Air Force) and later used by Toronto Flying Club"'. The aerodrome closed in 1931.
* Long Branch Aerodrome - opened 1917 and closed 1919. Now site of Ontario Power Generation's Lakeview Generating Station.
* Maple Airport
* Toronto Aerodrome and Toronto Flying Club 1931-1939 located at current Downsview subway station
