CBBC . Based on the BBC Saturday morning show "Multi-Coloured Swap Shop ", which ran onBBC1 from 1976 to 1982, it is hosted by television presenterBarney Harwood (ex presenter of "CBBC ") andMelvin Odoom (ex regular of "Dick and Dom In Da Bungalow " and regular of "The Slammer "), and stars veteran puppet characterBasil Brush , from whom the show takes its title.Although, the series contained a lot of games with a lot of gunge which the original show in the 1970's didn't. The show is produced by The Foundation (the makers of "
The Basil Brush Show " and "Holly & Stephen's Saturday Showdown ").New Format
The new version of "Swap Shop" is broadcast live, and features games and comedy sketches, as well as the "swap shop" itself (the studio audience bring items to exchange for this feature).
The Series
The first series ran for thirteen episodes of one hour. It is unknown if a second series will air, especially considering the little media attention it has garnered despite being a revival of a series which gained a lot of attention and continued to many years after it had finished.
Basil's Game Show
On Fridays an edited 30 minute version, "Basil's Game Show", is broadcast. This show consists of only the games, some of Basil's jokes and a superhero sketch, from the previous Saturday telecast; this show does not feature any swaps, or the celebrity interview. The show is advertised as "Basils Swap Shop" in some listings, though on air it is titled "Basil's Game Show".
