In 2005, Pecatonica was among a large number of institutions awarded a "Standing Up for Rural Schools, Communities, and Libraries" award by the Wisconsin State Superintendent, Elizabeth Burmaster. The award was created to provide recognition of rural communities which advocate for schools, libraries, and lifestyle at a time when the communities are financially challenged. "We have strong schools because of the capable teachers and administrators, engaged business and community leaders, and active parents working together to keep schools strong," Burmaster said.
