Gene Taylor (born
2 July 1952 ,Norwalk, California ) is a prolific and widely acclaimedblues rock andboogie-woogie pianist .He reputedly starting out as a drummer at age 8 [ [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwL5SpZonFU YouTube - 30 September 2007 Gene Taylor (USA) ] ] but two years later he had picked up his initial piano skills from boogie-woogie pianist-neighbours [ [http://www.pacificblues.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=22_69 Gene Taylor : Pacific Blues, www.pacificblues.com ] ] . Around the age of 16 he began working with some of the big names in the West Coast blues scene including
Big Joe Turner andT-Bone Walker . In the mid seventies he joined theJames Harman Band [ [http://www.jamesharman.com/bio.htm James Harman's Official Website ] ] and had a stint as pianist for boogie super-groupCanned Heat between November 1974 and May 1976. From 1981 to 1984 he toured with The Blasters, and in 1986 finally recorded his first soloalbum , "Handmade". His "The Return Of The Formerly Brothers" recorded withAmos Garrett andDoug Sahm in 1987 won aJuno Award the following year. Between 1993-2007 Taylor played withThe Fabulous Thunderbirds [ [http://www.fabulousthunderbirds.com/about.html?sub=gene About the Fabulous Thunderbirds ] ] amongst various other projects. He recorded an eponymous second solo album for Pacific Blues in 2003 partly accompanied by James Harman and Bill Bateman [ [http://www.pacificblues.com/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=187 Gene Taylor [CD : Pacific Blues, www.pacificblues.com ] ] . This album included a version of the boogie piano classic " Pinetop's Boogie Woogie".
