Its seat is the town of Grodków, which lies approximately convert|22|km|mi|0 south of Brzeg and convert|41|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Opole.

The gmina covers an area of convert|286.39|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 19,743 (out of which the population of Grodków amounts to 8,771, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 10,972).
