Approved Premise

In 1994 legislation facilitiated civil marriage in venues other than the Register Office; such venues required a grant of approval from the local authority which identified the rooms in the building in which marriages might be solemnized. Civil marriage venues now include stately homes, hotels, permanently moored vessels and sports stadiums and have become increasingly popular
