Tellicherry (ship)

Tellicherry (ship)

The " Tellicherry " was a ship wrecked in 1806 in the Philippines.

The "Tellicherry" was built on the Thames in England in 1796 and at 467 tons was owned by J. St Barbe, a wealthy merchant and ship owner. It arrived in Sydney, Australia on 15 Feb 1806 with a cargo of convicts. On 6 April 1806 it sailed to China for a load of tea. When passing through the Mindoro Strait in the Philippines the ship was totally wrecked sometime in June. The crew survived by abandoning ship into the ships boats and making their way to Manila. From there, a passing American ship took them to Canton where they arrived on 1 August 1806.
