- Tellicherry (ship)
The " Tellicherry " was a ship wrecked in 1806 in the
Philippines .The "Tellicherry" was built on the
Thames inEngland in 1796 and at 467 tons was owned by J. St Barbe, a wealthy merchant and ship owner. It arrived inSydney ,Australia on 15 Feb 1806 with a cargo ofconvicts . On 6 April 1806 it sailed toChina for a load of tea. When passing through theMindoro Strait in thePhilippines the ship was totally wrecked sometime in June. The crew survived by abandoning ship into the ships boats and making their way toManila . From there, a passing American ship took them to Canton where they arrived on 1 August 1806.
