Dr. Peter Neubauer (born
July 5 1913 - diedFebruary 15 ,2008 ) was a notedchild psychiatrist and author of a controversial study of adoptivetwin s (five sets) andtriplet s (one set) who were deliberately separated at birth for the purposes of the study. He served on the board of theSigmund Freud Archives and was a former director of the Child Development Center of the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services in Manhattan.According to
NPR , at the conclusion of the study in 1980, Dr. Neubauer feared that public opinion would be against the study and declined to publish it. The records of the study are sealed at theYale University Library until 2066.
