What Do You Want to Make Those Eyes at Me For?

"What Do You Want to Make Those Eyes at Me For?" was a 1959 rock and roll song. It was written by Joseph McCarthey, Howard Johnson and Jimmy Monaco. A version produced by Michael Barclay became a number one hit for Emile Ford & The Checkmates over the Christmas and New Year period of 1959/60. It first entered the UK charts on 30 October 1959, spending 25 weeks there. It was at number one for six weeks. For the first week it shared the top spot with Adam Faith's What Do You Want?.

The song was also successfully covered by Shakin' Stevens in 1987. This version first entered the charts on 28 November 1987. It spent eight weeks there and peaked at #5.
