- Stone (Surrey cricketer)
Stone (Surrey cricketer) (first name, birth and death details unknown) refers to a noted amateur
cricket er in the 18th century who was chiefly associated with Surrey. The full span of his career is uncertain but he was definitely active between 1773 and 1780. According toCricketArchive , he resurrected his career with two further matches in the 1790 season, but it cannot be said with certainty that this was the same man, especially as he seems to have moved from Surrey to Kent.Stone made 8 known appearances in
major cricket matches to 1780 and then, if it was the same man, two more in 1790. It should be noted that cricket's "statistical record" began in 1772 and it may be assumed that Stone was active in the 1760s before detailed records began to be habitually compiled.Stone was primarily a batsman who scored a known total of 117 runs in 16 innings with a highest score of 35. He has not been credited with any wickets. He took just 3 catches, which suggests he may have been an outfielder.
