Euzhan Palcy (born
January 13 ,1958 ) is a film director fromMartinique ,France . Notable for being the first Black woman to direct a mainstreamHollywood film: "A Dry White Season " which starredDonald Sutherland andMarlon Brando . She moved to Paris in 1975, and in 1983, won the Silver Lion award for her first film, [Rue Cases Negres - Sugar Cane Alley] , a poignant film set in the last days of slavery on a small Caribbean island.She has produced and directed a number of projects for both movies and TV.
