Ricardo Artur de Araújo Pereira is a Portuguese comedian, member of
Gato Fedorento (Smelly Cat).He was born in
Lisbon , 28th April 1974, his father is aTAP aeroplane pilot and his mother an aeroplane hostess. He has a degree inSocial Communication that he obtained while studying inUniversidade Católica Portuguesa . He has also worked as a journalist for theJornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias .He is a writer for
Producoes Ficticias , he is one of the writers of "Herman 98" and "Herman 99" of the known Portuguese comedianHerman José , he also co-wrote "O Programa da Maria" (2001), "Hermandifusao Portuguesa" (RDP), "Felizes para Sempre" (Expresso ), "As Crónicas de José Estebes" noDiário de Notícias , among many others.In 2003 he made his first appearance in television acting in the series "O Perfeito Anormal" (The Perfect Freak) along with fellow
Gato Fedorento memberZé Diogo Quintela . These series were broadcasted onSIC Radical , a television channel aimed at the younger people. These series were very low budget and were seen as the boost that these comedians needed into television.Also, in 2003 he started the
Gato Fedorento project, a comedy project with great impact on Portuguese television, along withZé Diogo Quintela ,Miguel Góis andTiago Dores . They started a row of series in a program with nameGato Fedorento , "Série Fonseca", "Série Meireles" and "Série Barbosa" (note that the series' names are usual Portuguese surnames and every character in the series had the same surname as the series' name) onSIC Radical . In 2006 they moved toRTP1 withGato Fedorento , "Série Lopes da Silva" and later with "Diz Que é Uma Espécie De Magazine", which they have just finished the second series. He also has an internet blog with fellow Gato Fedorento members.He has the skill of impersonating sports and politics personalities as well as Portuguese regional stereotypes. These skills are used in the television series as well as in advertising campaigns in television. He is also a columnist in
Visao andA Bola , one of the most recognised sports newspaper inPortugal .Ricardo was voted 76th Greatest Portuguese of all time in a Poll conducted by RTP (Rádio Televisão Portuguesa) for it's Show "Grandes Portugueses", based on a similar show, "100 Greatest Britons", aired on BBC.
He is married with radio producer Maria José Areias, and has two daughters: Rita and Maria Ines. He is also a very dedicated
Sport Lisboa e Benfica fan.
