Mikulicz syndrome

Mikulicz syndrome

Mikulicz syndrome is a usually benign, chronic condition, characterized by the enlargement of the parotid, lacrimal or salivary glands occurring as a complication of a disease other than Mikulicz's disease such as lymphoma, leukemia, or uveoparotid fever. The exact cause is unknown, but it may be a form of Sjogren syndrome. It is diagnosed especially in middle-aged and elderly women.

It may also have effect on the tonsils and other glands of the face and the neck.

It is also known under the names Dacryosialoadenopathia, Dacryosialoadenopathy, Mikulicz-Radecki Syndrome, Mikulicz-Sjogren Syndrome and von Mikulicz Syndrome.
