Phoenix is a town in the
U.S. State ofMichigan inKeweenaw County . Phoenix lies at the junction ofM-26 andUS 41 .Phoenix was the site of the first successful
copper mines in theKeweenaw Peninsula in the 1840s, although the mining boom ended not long after it had begun, as more easily accessible copper was discovered nearCopper Harbor .Phoenix lies about two miles south of
Eagle River, Michigan , which in on the shores ofLake Superior .In Phoenix today, few buildings remain. The Phoenix Store is the only running business in Phoenix, selling soda, beer, snacks, candy, toiletries and historical books about the area. There are two bars about a mile southwest of Phoenix along
US-41 . The Bammert Blacksmith Shop and the Church of the Assumption are two buildings dating back to the 1800s and are run by theKeweenaw National Historical Park [http://hunts-upguide.com/phoenix.html] .
