Its seat is the town of Brzeszcze, which lies approximately convert|9|km|mi|0 south-west of Oświęcim and convert|57|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Kraków.

The gmina covers an area of convert|46.13|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 21,557 (out of which the population of Brzeszcze amounts to 11,730, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 9,827).
